Imagine. (extra)

I think the book has a greater advantage of making us imagine places, people and moods and many more important parts of a story. With the film it already shows all these parts, so you can’t really imagine anything except make predictions about what is going to happen or what happened to shape someone.

In the film, it shows you in detail what the spaceships look like. I sometimes find it nice to be able to imagine what things look like. I still think they did a great job on the spaceships but in the book they said a couple words in total about the spaceships. This lets you imagine what they would look like, so you can also exaggerate even more than the movie already did.

The second part is the aliens. In the book, they do describe the aliens, but not fondly. This means I can make the alien look as scary or as big as I like. I can make it green, or blue, or multiple colours. In the movie on the other hand, they show us what the aliens look like. Size, colour, shape, etc. I find it with aliens that it’s fun to be creative, because aliens can come in all shapes.

Last but not least, the setting or place. I find it nice to be able to imagine the place around the characters, it gives a feeling of you being their. The book does describe some parts of the place, but these are hints so you can imagine it. The movie already shows you this. I also think it’s not bad, because instead of focusing on the place, you can focus more on the facial expressions or the movements of the characters. This is not possible in a book, it could be but it’s not that common.

I think it’s nice to be able to imagine the place, characters and ships. But I also think it’s not bad to like not imagining these things, because instead of focusing on the place, or the spaceships and aliens in this story, you can focus more on the facial expressions or the movements of the characters. This is not possible in a book, it could be but it’s not all the time like a movie.

03 The lake

When we where in the port of Hoorn, we had decided to go for a run in the morning. So I woke up at 6, went outside to do my own exercises first. It was a little bit foggy and cold because the sun hadn’t gone up yet. But as soon as the sun started to come up, you could feel the heat from the sun onto your body, it felt nice because there was a small breeze, but sun at the same time.

At 7:30, the others came out to go for the run. We ran through the village of Hoorn, the roads where not very well taken care off. The streets where narrow and the houses looked very plain everywhere. It was a very quiet morning, the only thing you could hear where the birds, the wind going through the trees and the footsteps of us running. As soon as we got to the lake, we went into our swimsuits and got ready to swim.

The people that where swimming were Dominic, Aniket, Veer, Andrew and I. We first had to get over a long layer of rocks, these rocks felt like walking on ice because they where very slippy from algae. Veer slipped there but stood up and kept going. After that it got even harder, now we had to walk over the rocks with algae but they where underwater so you couldn’t see them. After that you got into the water. As soon as my foot touched the water, I realised how cold it was. It felt like going into an ice cube, but liquid, like an ice bath. Apparently it was around 3-4 degrees. When I got all the way in, you could feel the coldness affecting your muscles, it sort of gave you either muscle spasms, or a cramp. After swimming about 30 meters, I felt something painful in my foot, I thought it were the fishes or something, because I felt the pain like 10 meters after again. But as soon as I got out, I saw it was a cut rather than a bite. It was bleeding, but I didn’t have anything I could clean it with, so I just left it, put on my socks and shoes and started running in the hope that my sock wouldn’t get too dirty from the cut. It did hurt while running but it wasn’t very painful so I was fine. It was also very cold while running because of that breeze, the wind came onto the spots that were still wet and made it even colder. But after running about 400 meters I was nice and warm again. When I got back to the boat, I cleaned up the wound and got a nice warm tea with the taste of lemon and some honey in it.

02 – The empathy used in “There Will Come Soft Rains”

Ray Bradbury in his story ‘There Will Come Soft Rains’, uses the house as the main character and gives the house some robots or alarms that have emotion to them to make us empathise with this house and the robots inside that he describes throughout the story.

He shows this in the sentences “The weather box on the front door sang quietly; ‘Rain, rain, go away; rubbers, raincoats for today . . .’ And the rain tapped on the empty house echoing. Outside. The garage chimed and lifted its door to reveal the waiting car. After a long wait the door swung down again.” The words that really stick out to me are “The empty house echoing” and “The garage chimed and lifted to reveal the waiting car.” Because Ray Bradbury describes the car like it misses his driver and that makes me think it is alive. The house makes me feel like it’s lonely and it makes me empathise with this house. I find that Ray Bradbury’s choice of using the word ‘echoing’ was a good idea because adds the emptiness and loneliness feeling to the sentence and the house.

01 Weirdest and best Italian

I went to a camp in the summer, it was an acting and filmmaking camp. I did the acting of course, I’ve loved acting all my life, I did theatre and acting in movies since I was young, so I was expecting lots of good things from this camp.

When I arrived at the camp, it was a very nice school property in England, near Cambridge. I had a nice room there and everyone was very nice. I made many friends there, and I was staying 2 weeks, so I had lots of time with them.

There was this one kid called Tiberriano, but we called him Tibi. He was quite weird but very nice to hang around with.

I would say Tibi is like a sloth , very lazy, most of the time he felt like chilling and he wasn’t much into sports. He also doesn’t give much about anything or anyone, except the group he was with, I’ll explain later about the groups at camp. But most importantly, he is small, and very funny. He was like 1.70m and his jokes where mostly inappropriate or so not funny that they where funny.

Now the groups, there were many groups at this camp, and you could join if you are a friend of everyone in the group. You had the small groups that no one actually knew, but then you had the 3 groups that were at higher status of camp. You had the Gangsters, they thought they were very cool, even though they weren’t really. You had the Diva’s, they were the group that always played truth or dare, and the staff really liked them. Diva’s may stand for a band or group with only girls, but this group had boys and girls mixed like all groups. Then you had my group, we were called The AR’s We where basically the All-Rounders group. We did everything that the other groups didn’t do.

Tibi was basically a part of all of them. He also made up the name, he was sort of like god there, but without god strength.

Luckily enough, Tibi liked our group the most because he was a friend of all of us. So at the end of the camp, he stopped switching groups and he was a part of our group.

Without Tibi the camp wouldn’t have been so much fun. I think everyone would agree with that at the camp because he made every single thing exciting and was a great guy to hang around with.
